The below article appeared in the November 28, 2017 Los Angeles Daily Journal regarding the outcome of a California Supreme Court ruling. The case involved the ongoing Agricultural Labor Relations Board (ALRB) certification of a collective bargaining election following a multi-year absence of the ALRB certified labor union. Earlier this summer, a major settlement was reached in two lawsuits, filed in 2009 and 2012, alleging failures to protect farm workers from heat illness and death. The lawsuits, titled Bautista, et al v. State of California, et al., were filed against Cal/OSHA by individual farm workers, the United Farm Workers, and the UFW Foundation.
